Lesson Two: Answers

1. a) The British Empire is a term that is used for United Kingdom at it's largest point. The British Empire began to expand in 17th century and was largest in 20th century. It was the largest empire in the history: it covered over 33,700,000 km2.
 b) The East India Company was English company that was established in 1600s. It was the mightiest trading company in East India and so it basically made India a part of the British Empire.

 2.It is said that lion is the king of the animals. So it represents power, might and superiority.

 5. My opinions of monarchies are slightly contradictory. On the other hand I think that monarchies are really old-fashioned and that it is unfair that they live on taxpayers money. I think that they are unnecessary celebrities. They doesn't have to do anything, except be born, to become famous. And on my opinion, only people that have done something great or remarkable should be famous. But on the other hand I have respect for royals. I can surely believe that being a royal can be really hard and demanding. You have to pay attention to your looks and behavior all the time. And I don't doubt that it is hard to be famous from ever since you're born to the moment, and even after, you die.
